Horse Racing & Gambling facility proposed for Oak Grove

A horse racing facility operated by Churchill Downs and Keeneland has been proposed for Oak Grove, Ky. This is one of two facilities that is planned to be constructed. The other is located in southeastern Kentucky in Corbin. The justification for such a facility is the economic impact for Oak Grove, Christian county area as well as the Clarksville-Montgomery County area and throughout northern middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky. There alternative forms of economic development and impact that will not affect the community negatively.

The proposed facilities will feature live horse racing, but more importantly will allow gambling through what is referred to as “historical racing machines” which facilitate “pari-mutuel wagering” licensed by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. Such wagering is already available at several locations throughout Kentucky but legislation through the state has never been passed to approve such gambling.
